Environmental experts and lighting experts have confirmed this idea. It is suggested that the purification equipment should be targeted, but the energy stability and control costs must be solved before the specific application.

The silver-white new street lamp looks no different from a traditional street light, but the structure chart shows that the new street light actually has “a special multi-function”.
According to reports, this type of street light can use photovoltaic solar panels and wind energy fans to generate electricity and provide lighting for pedestrians at night. Because there is no need for external power supply, it can be placed everywhere without restrictions from the cable.
Its greatest feature is the use of internally placed purification devices that perform "photosynthesis" like plants and purify the air.
Source of inspiration is not satisfied with "purifier" inside air pollution lamp
When it comes to design inspiration, Professor Qiu Song said that all came from everyday life. He once designed an indoor purifier and felt that the air pollution in Beijing was getting worse when he was out, and he wanted to move the purifier outdoors.
He found that traditional street lamps, except for the use of lamp heads for lighting, are idle. “It is entirely possible to use them and install air cleaners, which is useful for reducing vehicle exhaust emissions.”
At the Third International Art and Science Exhibition held in November 2012, the "Spiritual Streetlight" won the award. Experts from the Ministry of Science and Technology and some companies are very interested in it.
Experts comment on creative ideas may be used for urban lighting
Although the new streetlights are still in the design concept stage, Professor Qiu believes that “clean energy and purification devices are ready-made and certainly feasible.”
Professor Zhang Pengyi of the School of Environment of Tsinghua University affirmed the design concept. He said: “The indoor pollutants are mainly formaldehyde, while the outdoor space is mainly respirable particulates, and the nitrogen oxides emitted by automobiles.” Therefore, the purification device should be targeted. The placement of street lamps is also stressful. “The semi-open space, such as tunnels and underground garages, will be most useful when placed on traffic-intensive intersections.”
Liu Shiping, vice chairman of the China Illuminating Engineering Society, also thinks this is a good idea, but some technical problems still need to be solved, such as the issue of energy stability. “We must also look at the specific effects of finished products and the economics of using them.” After the technology is perfected and costs are controlled, it may be applied to urban lighting equipment.
